Our Southern Smiles Dental Practice hygiene team is committed to providing our patients with a wide variety of dental services. We pride ourselves in using the most advanced technology, and the latest science and research to provide our patients with a superior level of care. Through this level of care we are able to aid in the treatment of our patients highest oral health needs. If you've been diagnosed with gum disease, there are a variety of treatment options depending on the details of your situation and the severity of the problem. We always start with the least invasive options, which are non-surgical. However, in more serious cases, surgery may be necessary.
Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy
After assessment serivices have been performed by our dental team and a patient has been diagnosed with active periodontal disease, sometimes referred to as "gum disease", a detailed treatment plan will be provided.
To help arrest the state of periodontal disease, our hygiene team offers a non-surgical treatment known as Periodontal Therapy. This entails one or more appointments with your hygienist which will include deep scaling, debriding the roots of any tartar and biofilm deposits with micro ultrasonic and hand scalers in conjuntion with laser therapy to decontaminate the gingival pockets, remove dead necrotic tissue and promote healing.
To help make our patients comfortable during Periodontal Therapy sessions, we offer full mouth local anesthesia, Nitrous Oxide Gas, and IV Conscious Sedation.
After completing the Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy, depending on our team's reccommendations, patiets are then placed on a 3-4 month hygiene schedule to help maintain the state of the oral cavity. At these appointments, it is determeined if the disease is being kept in an arrested state. We continue to offer localized antimicrobial therapy and laser therapies in unstable periodontal areas until an acceptable therapuetic end point is achieved.
With the latest studies and research, dental lasers are being used in the treatment of oral disease processes. This is important in maintaining an overall healthy oral cavity. Lasers emit a concentrated light energy that destroys bacteria and unhealthy tissue. Through the laser services provided by our Laser Certified dental hygienists here at Southern Smiles Dental Practice, our advanced technologies listed below can help in the reduction and prevention of oral disease.
- Laser Bacterial Reduction:
- This reduces the amount of bacteria within the periodontal pockets for up to 56 days, as well as increasing the collagen production and blood circulation for optimal healing.
- Laser Degranulation:
- This is used for the removal of unhealthy, necrotic tissue from the periodontal pockets. This allows for optimal periodontal healing, and most often used in adjunct to periodontal therapy.
- Treatment of Herpetic Lesions (Cold Sores)
- Treatment of Apthous Ulcers (Canker Sores)
- Reduction of Orthodontic Induced Gingivitis
- Reduction of inflammation around dental implants and crowns
